The Freshman Immigration Course is taken by first-semester Computer Science majors on the Pittsburgh campus. The course is designed to acquaint incoming majors with computer science at CMU. This course consists of weekly invited presentations on current computational biology research topics by leading scientists. Some will be at the University of Pittsburgh and some will be at Carnegie Mellon. The Freshman Immigration Course is taken by first-semester Computer Science majors on the Doha campus. Complete 3 non-technical courses of at least 9 units each from any of the departments in the Dietrich College of Humanities & Social Sciences or the College of Fine Arts. Some of the courses taught in these units are considered technical courses and may not be used to satisfy this requirement .
The human-machine interface is a core part of Virtual Reality and teleoperation of robots when touch is involved. The course includes lectures, research paper presentation and discussion, and course projects with tactile sensors or haptic devices. Planning and Decision-making are critical components of autonomy in robotic systems. These components are responsible for making decisions that range from path planning and motion planning to coverage and task planning to taking actions that help robots understand the world around them better. This course studies underlying algorithmic techniques used for planning and decision-making in robotics and examines case studies in ground and aerial robots, humanoids, mobile manipulation platforms and multi-robot systems. The students will learn the algorithms and implement them in a series of programming-based projects.
The course comprises a balance of lectures, case studies, live demonstrations of some medical AI applications, problem-solving and amp; programming assignments, and research tasks. The students will be exposed to industry- and research-based perspectives on AI for medicine.
In addition to HCI undergraduate majors, the course is open to undergraduate and graduate level students with proficiency in programming and prior courses or experience in user-centered research, design, and/or evaluation. Some exceptions to the course prerequisites will be granted with the permission of the instructor. Computational neuroscience is an interdisciplinary science that seeks to understand how the brain computes to achieve natural intelligence.
We will cover many classical geometric constructions and novel algorithmic methods. Some of the topics to be covered are convex hulls, Delaunay triangulations, graph drawing, point location, geometric medians, polytopes, configuration spaces, linear programming, and others. This course is a natural extension to , for those who want to learn about algorithmic problems in higher dimensions. This course discusses in depth many of the concepts underlying the design, definition, implementation, and use of modern programming languages. Formal approaches to defining the syntax and semantics are used to describe the fundamental concepts underlying programming languages. A variety of programming paradigms are covered such as imperative, functional, logic, and concurrent programming.
This observation suggests that REAC-mediated responses may have occurred through an essential pleiotropic role of this glycosaminoglycan in regulating cell polarity. Even the use of extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs) with frequencies lower than 100 Hz, and magnetic field intensity spanning from 0.1 to 20 mT, became a useful therapy for soft tissue regeneration, fracture repair, and osteoporosis treatment . However, it has been shown that electric currents can accelerate cell activation and influence epigenetic remodeling. In particular, the use of 50 Hz ELF-EMF on GC-2 cells decreased genome-wide methylation and the expression of DNA methyltransferases in neural stem cells isolated from the hippocampus of newborn mice. Moreover, the ELF-EMF irradiation at 1 mT, and 50 Hz, for 12 days enhanced NSC proliferation and neuronal cell fate specification through Cav1 channel-dependent regulation and histone modification . This course will introduce students to the theory and practice of modeling biological systems from the molecular to the organism level with an emphasis on intracellular processes. A range of biological models and applications will be considered including gene regulatory networks, cell signaling, and cell cycle regulation. Weekly lab sessions will provide students hands-on experience with methods and models presented in class.
This class will start with a brief overview of neural networks, then spend the majority of the class demonstrating how to apply neural networks to natural language problems. Each section class will introduce a particular problem or phenomenon in natural language, describe why it is difficult to model, and demonstrate several models that were designed to tackle this problem. In the process of doing so, the class will cover different techniques that are useful in creating models, including handling variably sized and structured sentences, efficient handling of large data, https://wave-accounting.net/ semi-supervised and unsupervised learning, structured prediction, and multilingual modeling. Geometry plays a vital role in both engineering and scientific discovery, as well as in our everyday lives via emerging technologies like depth cameras and 3D printing. This course teaches students how to think about three-dimensional shape, both mathematically and computationally.
This course will train students to be effective communicators and advocates in the ICT space. Students taking this course will learn about the broader scope of technology policymaking including formal lawmaking, agency rule-making, strategic litigation, and corporate social responsibility. Current ICT policy topics in privacy, free expression, net neutrality, and competition will be covered. Public communication strategies such as writing op-eds, interviewing with journalists, producing explanatory videos and interactive games will be explored. Finally, students will learn how to perform an expert role in areas such as writing policy briefs and providing testimony. Graduate students whose research has public policy implications are encouraged to develop projects related to their research. There is no requirement for programming knowledge, but students with experience in developing interactive media and games will be encouraged to utilize such skills.
Formally, we will explore concepts such as multilinear narrative, immersive and navigable worlds, network aesthetics, interactive difficulty, aleatory poetics, and videogame mechanics. Throughout the quarter, our analysis of computational media aesthetics will be haunted by matters of race, gender, sexuality, class, and other ghosts in the machine.
In this studio course students will apply learning science concepts to critique existing forms of learning media, establish a set of design precedents to guide project work and produce a series of design concepts that support learning interactions in a real-world context. As final deliverables, students will present their design research findings, design concepts, and prototypes to stakeholders, and draft a media-rich proposal for their learning media concept to pitch to a local funder. Security is becoming one of the core requirements in the design of critical systems.
However, there is no scientific evidence that Rife machines can treat any disease, including cancer. The quality and construction of these devices can also vary considerably, and low-quality machines may be unsafe. Early treatment of most types of cancer can significantly improve a person’s outlook. Delaying medical treatment can lead to the cancer spreading to other parts of the body, making it more challenging to for doctors to treat. The most significant risk of using a Rife machine is if a person delays standard cancer treatments. There is no standard or regulation for Rife machines, and virtually anyone can make one. This means that the quality and construction of these machines can vary considerably.
The projects apply these techniques to create innovative physical effects for short films, all the way from concept to post-production. The course emphasizes real-time practical effects to explore the immediacy and interactivity of improvisation and rehearsal.
All parts of the body emit electrical impulses with different frequencies that vary with health and disease. According to Doyle, Rettmann told patients that the government did not want to cure cancer and did not understand what she was doing. This course contextualizes various schools of thought in the field of Black Studies, including Afrofuturism, Afropessimism, Afronihilism, black optimism, and Afrorealism. Students will read texts by key figures, who might include Saidiya Hartman, Orlando Patterson, Hortense Spillers, Frantz Fanon, Stuart Hall, Kara Keeling, Achille Mbembe, Fred Moten, Sylvia Wynter, Frank Wilderson, Katherine McKittrick, and Jared Sexton. In this class, we focus on the centrality of debates around women’s reproductive capacity in shaping the culture of modernity in the U.S. around 1900.
Students are encouraged, but not required, to take courses from different departments to gain additional breadth and to create new opportunities for engagement with the university community. The decision to allow transfer or dual degree will be made by committee based on the student’s academic performance , additional involvement in SCS and other computing-related activities, and availability of space in the student’s class level. Robert Pickett, graduated vice president of the student body and enrolled as a law student at the University of Wisconsin, reviewed the history of the Black United Students at KSU, then recalled his own experiences with the professionalism of the Guard on campus. The best way to predict whether a given campus would join the national student strike or a demonstration like it was to count the number of National Merit Scholars in the freshman class. Dialog systems and processes are becoming an increasingly vital area of interest both in research and in practical applications. The purpose of this course will be to examine, in a structured way, the literature in this area as well as learn about ongoing work. The course will cover traditional approaches to the problem, as exemplified by the work of Grosz and Sidner, as well as more recent work in dialog, discourse and evaluation, including statistical approaches to problems in the field. While everyone will do all readings, a presenter will be assigned to overview the paper and lead the discussion.
This course is only for freshman SCS students that are interested in learning more about HCI. Undergraduate students within SCS are encouraged to explore courses college-wide which may be available to them. Students considering going on to graduate school in Computer Science or related disciplines should take a wide variety of Computer Science and Mathematics courses, as well as consider getting involved in independent research as contribution margin early as possible. Students interested in graduate school in computer science or its related areas are strongly encouraged to participate in the SCS Honors Undergraduate Research Thesis program. Additionally, graduate CS courses can be taken with permission of the instructor and in consultation with an academic advisor. Students will be required to have met all financial obligations to the university before being awarded a degree.
The robotics topics include animatronic rapid prototyping and programming human-robot collaborative performance. The course includes a brief overview of the history of special effects and robotics to set the work in context. The capstone project course is a group-oriented demonstration of student skill in one or more areas covered by the degree. The classroom component guides students in project planning, team pro wave 101 rife machine management, development of requirements and design specifications, and software tools for managing group-oriented projects. The lab component provides project-specific technical guidance and expertise, for example in the development of a question answering system, dialog, or sentiment analysis application. Thus, each project receives two types of supervision, often from two separate members of the faculty.
